Gotta love that matpat brings up 12 species of bears and immediately narrows it down to the basic two that everyone knows instead of literally any of the interesting species he could have been
I have Pooh books from when I was a child, and I remember that Pooh actually ate other things than honey, like apples. Granted, those apples were coated in sugar to make candy apples, but it still contains other things than just sugar.
I haven't gone through all the comments to see if anyone else points this out, but Pooh does eat other things: carrots, strawberries, jam, marmalade, bread, butter, tea and cookies/biscuits, cake... He prefers honey but there are other things it shows him eating.

I’ve never heard the 7 deadly sins theory. I thought each character represented a mental disorder. (Compulsive eating, OCD, ADHD, dyslexia, separation anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, etc.)
Bears eating honey has historical precedence. The Norse hero Beowulf's name roughly translates from Old Northumbrian into Bee Hunter, which was a term for Bears. This name shows a connection between Bears and Honey as far back as 700-750 A.D./C.E. when Beowulf was first transcribed from oral tradition.
@@mykl-anarche2201 you gotta remember this is thousands of years ago.... Humans didn't make that connection for the protein rich larva and just saw the bears eating the hunny
@@kaylareid6160 some of t.his theories have ruined some movies I liked because I can never see the movie the same way but I forget about so it doesn't really affect much
Dionette it's due to the time period this takes place in. If you've seen the recent remake of Winnie the Pooh to my recollection it's during ww2 or around that time frame. Then again please don't take my opinion for granted.
But since Pooh is a walking, talking, occasionally even thinking toy, his body isn't alive and does not need the building materials to maintain itself. Needle and thread takes care of physical wear and the sugars consumed convert directly into energy. Perhaps, if Pooh consumes enough honey in one sitting, he will transcend his physical form.
1:53 My idea: Off screen eating. He goes to the river all the time. And killing fish on screen would be too much "ketchup" for the kids. If he ate proportionate amounts of fish and carcasses off screen, it could balance out his honey consumption. You have to account for the fact that this *I S* a kids movie and that it can't show things dying. I know how you are about cartoons but consider the audience. How would you feel if a fish or a rat got ripped in half by wholesome Pooh?
Personally my favorite Winnie the Pooh theory is they're all representative of a different mental illness. Like rabbit is OCD, piglet is anxiety, Eeyore is depression, Tigger is ADHD, Pooh is binge eating disorder, ect. To be honest I have major nostalgia for these type of so theories cuz they are so old like in the vein of the Rugrats or Pokemon theory.
@@joshuaschulze-reimpell5000 That's incorrect - the first medical textbook describing something that sounds like ADHD was in 1798 - and some 1800s medical textbooks mention children who have what we now call ADHD, its core symptoms were first formally lectured about in 1902, and it wasn't in the DSM until 1968 as "hyperkinetic impulse disorder" and then ADD with/without hyperactivity in 1980, and finally changed to ADHD in 1987, with the 3 subtypes (predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive, and combined) being added in 1994... however, descriptions of what look to be ADHD behaviours have been found dotted around history in literature and art, and even the bible. The earliest known mention of what we consider "modern ADHD" was by Hippocrates in c.400 BCE... so it's quite possible Tigger could have been modelled on people with ADHD but without knowing it by name 😅
Hi Matpat, one mistake in your theory, nutrition & metabolism does not scale with body height, but instead it scales with skin surface area (BSA). This is why certain medicines are sometimes prescribed in larger dosage to babies or children when compared to adults, after adjusting for weight. The keyword is allometry.

MatPat: This is like, the only Disney theory I’ve done that isn’t about the main character being evil, or dead, or about to die The title: are you sure about that
Plot Twist: Pooh keeps Piglet around all the time for when he *finally* decides to get some bacon. Next will be Rabbit then Owl and it will cumulate in an epic one on one battle between him and Tigger.

and Rabit says"honey or condensed milk with your bread" Winnie the pooh responds " both but never mind the bread" he must there fore, even though we don't see him eating it, must eat milk
Yeah look at a deadly snake. It is deadly but like you gotta get bitten and then you also have to not be treated or it has to be a pretty dangerous snake.
Matpat’s FNAF Theories are connecting evil to evil and the other one is connecting pure evil to a kids show, in other words that later one is very likely
Well, I gotta say, this one is stretching things more than usual. Pooh is a pretty nondescript teddy bear, so that whole 'what bear is it' bit was a bit much.
Yes. And they would be right to do so, because this is a ridiculous waste of time. Its fine if thats how you want to waste your time, but dont try and retell youtube videos, it makes for a bad story.
Imagine being the website owner and you come across this game theory video and your website is featured and you even get a cool, catchy song in the outro. What an honor.
fun fact! winnie the poo does actually eat something different! in the book ‘fall colors’ (i actually don’t really remember the title, but it’s something along the lines of that-) he eats apples with piglet!
Pooh also eats biscuits (cookies), bread, cake, milkshakes & he talks about eating cucumber & "finger sandwiches" (usually filled with cheese, chicken, mayo, lettuce & chutney) in different media.
As a Type 1 diabetic myself it is always appreciated when someone bothers to make the distinction between Type 1 and 2. Keep up the great work Mat, loved the theory.
As someone with Type 1 diabetes, I found it a bit creepy how right he was about some of the symptoms he listed at 15:20, I felt the exact same way when I first became a diabetic, there was only one symptoms that didn't match with me but different type and different people mean different symptoms
I always thought that the primary theory of winnie the pooh was that they all represented "disorders"; overeating, ADHD, laziness, timidness. This might just be something someone made up from when I was a kid though
Yes, there are 2 theories I've found. The 7 Deadly Sin Theory and the Disorder Theory. Then there was one I found before it got deleted was That Winnie the Pooh Drug Theory.
This is something everyone is indoctrinated with at school. Same with the Rugrats, and how all the babies are actually dead one way or another. The show just revolving around Angelica and her griefing
Really weird how much research is done for his height, but then you used the equation for 1/3 weight. 1/3 height doesn't mean he has 1/3 weight. My kid is half my height, but only 1/6th my weight.
Interesting. But do you have a different method then? Cause I could understand if MatPat struggled to find a different way to measure Pooh's weight, given how difficult his height was. I'm honestly not trying to sound rude, so sorry if I came across that way.
@@matineeman3038 Mass is usually done by squaring the value e.g. if person 1 was 1m and 10 stone then say person 2 is 2m (2x taller) then they would be 4 times heavier (40 stone)
This awoke a burst of nostalgia in me I had two Winnie The Pooh VHSs when I was a kid, the OG movie (of course), and a tape with three episodes of the TV series on it. I can't recall what two of the episodes were, but I DO remember one was the "Horse Thieves" episode, if only because it taught little four-year-old me how the meaning of a phrase could change depending on which word you place the emphasis on. XD "We're not _horse_ thieves, we're horse _thieves!_ Horses who steal things! Comprendo?"
Heck! He’s a bear for crying out loud. Bears are omnivores. Why doesn’t he eat fish once in a while? Or deer meat? The only other things I ever seen him eat. Like in New Adventures. Was just cake, or honey on bread. In Piglet’s Big Movie. He eats cookies and a banana. Or candy and jelly beans in the Easter and Heffalump and Halloween movie.
Because the entire point of the character and story is that he's an imaginary friend. None of the characters are real. Pooh eats hunny, because that's what Christopher Robing thinks bears eat.
Love the theory but the bear that inspired the stories came from CANADA. the bear was rescued by a Canadian vet who named him after his home town of Winnipeg. It is something we Canadian theorist are proud of.
Harry Colebourn was the vet the gifted Winnipeg to the zoo. He did this because he was going to the war. Just thought I'd toss in my two cents worth. Seeing as Winnie the Pooh's origin story, has nothing to do with America. 🤗🇨🇦

It was my understanding that bears were primarily after the protein-rich non-stingy bee larva.
@@mykl-anarche2201 you gotta remember this is thousands of years ago.... Humans didn't make that connection for the protein rich larva and just saw the bears eating the hunny

My idea: Off screen eating.

To be honest I have major nostalgia for these type of so theories cuz they are so old like in the vein of the Rugrats or Pokemon theory.
@SomeonPC No it's not! To my knowlegde (could be mistaken of course) ADHD for exemple was first discorered a lot later than 1926.

Interesting... but I think the calculations would result in similar outcomes. Pooh has enough to eat per year and he will get diabetes.
Higher dose of drugs in childs than adults should due to higher metabolic rate of kids. Hence shorter duration.

It’s different for bears maybe? Idk.

I can't recall what two of the episodes were, but I DO remember one was the "Horse Thieves" episode, if only because it taught little four-year-old me how the meaning of a phrase could change depending on which word you place the emphasis on. XD
"We're not _horse_ thieves, we're horse _thieves!_ Horses who steal things! Comprendo?"
Is it s1 ep12 "Paw and Order"? (The TV series is called "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh")

MatPat: So the Theory can happen!
Audience: Well, okay then...
Well, insects are more diverse than just honey.
This is crazy, but I seem to remember multiple times that Winnie the pooh refers to his insides as stuffing.
In that case, maybe he's more addicted to sugar rather than honey. That even further proves he's got diabetes!
But he is not a normal bear he is a yellow bear
Yep, that would be the thing... Winnie The Pooh vs Bambi XD
